Jerry O'Sullivan & The Killasser Flute

It's just over a year ago that the idea of An Fheadóg Mhór Chill Lasarach was born. In 2017, Jerry O’Sullivan, the acclaimed uilleann piper from Yonkers, New York, was at a house session with family and friends in Dunmaynor, Killasser, Co. Mayo, the home place of his grandparents, when, out of nowhere, the Killasser-based flute maker Michael Cronnolly gave him one of his fully keyed flutes in the key of D and later in the key of F.  To repay these acts of kindness, Jerry O’Sullivan pledged to record an album using his new instruments.  This brought about “The Killasser Flute,” which celebrates the music of the area, with a particular focus on the memory of the Killasser Flute and Drum Band, of which Michael Cronnolly’s father was a member.

"The Killasser Flute" is an impressive 23 Track CD containing a variety of marches, polkas, reels, and slow airs. The album can be purchased in Co. Mayo at the post offices in Swinford, Foxford, and Geesala; at the Gateway Hotel, O’Connell’s Chemist, Moore’s Supermarket, and Mellett’s Newsagents, all in Swinford; and at The Turf Shed in Killasser. It is available from Jerry O’Sullivan directly by emailing him at

Jerry O'Sullivan Testimonial

Michael Cronnolly graciously presented me with a fully-keyed D flute and a keyless F flute in the summer of 2017. I have found these flutes to be superb in terms of intonation, sweetness of tone, and ease of playing. Owing to their sturdy construction and the inherent stability of the polymer out of which they were constructed, they have been maintenance free and problem-free. Since “the proof is in the pudding,” these flutes can be heard on my recording An Fheadog Mhor Chill Lasrach / The Killasser Flute, samples of which can be heard on this website. What you are hearing on these tracks
is the unprocessed sound of the flutes, devoid of pitch correction and other post-recording effects. I am delighted to recommend Michael's flutes to anyone seeking an excellent instrument.
